In line with the gender equality and family-friendly policies of all participating institutions to prepare women for independent positions of scientific leadership and to ensure the compatibility of family and scientific career, NeuroMac offers several gender equality and family friendly measures.

Among the standard measures for parents are the possibilities to finance home office computers, personnel assistance and child care.
There are seminars, courses, workshops as well as mentoring, individual coaching and funding possibilities in particular for women – some of them offered as joint seminars/workshops with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Freiburg.

Upon request, individual measures such as providing information and exchange of experiences regarding financial support, networking, events for female students, paper/proposal writing, leading etc. are organized.

The actual demand of female researchers and researchers with family responsibilities requires a flexible range of support measures. The office of the CRC/TRR supports the principal investigators and their research teams with organizational issues, particularly with regard to childcare, support of research groups with student assistants, organization of training workshops and setting up home offices in close collaboration with the Equal Opportunity Office at the Medical Faculty. In addition, NeuroMac appointed a Gender Equality Officer specifically for the CRC/TRR. Starting in 2020, Jun.-Prof. Katrin Kierdorf will be the women’s representative and support the young female scientists with questions concerning funding possibilities and grant applications. She will be assisted by the CRC/TRR 167 office concerning questions around child care and other issues.
